The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey, faces mounting pressure for verbally attacking Ghana’s Vice President.

During a meeting in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital, as part of John Dramani Mahama’s Building the Nation Tour, Fiifi Kwetey used derogatory language to describe the Vice President, criticizing him for numerous broken promises and “lies” and asserting that he does not represent the North.

Stephen Atubiga strongly opposes this behavior, asserting that regardless of political affiliation, Fiifi Kwetey should not have insulted the Vice President, who is a prominent Northern political leader.

Atubiga suggests that Fiifi Kwetey’s language towards Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia might have been different if he were of a different ethnicity.

Consequently, Atubiga has threatened to bar Fiifi Kwetey from the Northern Region unless he apologizes for his remarks within a week.

“Fiifi Kwetey must issue a formal apology to Dr. Bawumia within a week for his inappropriate language. Such conduct is unacceptable and disrespectful. As Northerners who have faced challenges in Ghanaian politics, we cannot tolerate insults directed at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” stated a spokesperson on Accra-based Metro TV.
