Kibi Senior High Technical proved their debating prowess once more as they won the second Kingsley Quizzes Inter High School Debate Competition, which was hosted in Kyebi, Eastern Region.
They triumphed over Abuakwa State College in an exciting championship game, confirming their status as winners as they had in the competition’s first year, which included all of the local secondary schools. They were rewarded for their accomplishment with a coveted golden trophy.
Along with an undisclosed monetary incentive, each of the three kids who represented their respective institutions received a laptop computer. Their schools and teachers further got financial incentives.
The motion “J.B. Danquah’s Ideological Contributions Have Played a Defining Role in Shaping the Socio-Political and Cultural Landscape of Ghana” was the main topic of discussion throughout the debate. Kibi Senior High Technical supported the motion, while Abuakwa State College argued against it.
The tournament took place on the same day as J.B. Danquah’s last funeral, which took place 59 years earlier.
Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, is leading a number of activities, including the quiz tournament, to raise educational standards in the area. Supplementary measures encompass mentoring schemes, high school football competitions, junior high school science and math tests, and elementary school spelling bees and readerthons.
The kids’ research, presentation, critical thinking, and oratory talents were all on display throughout the quiz competition as they skillfully refuted the claims made by their opponents. Videos, pictures, and other documentary material, such as pre-independence newspaper articles and books, were used by both teams to bolster their claims.
Abdul Karim, Abigail Asantewa Afriyie, and Mohammed Dauda represented Abuakwa State College, and Herty Ocansey, Larence Nii Lamptey, and Kathrina Ohenewa represented Kibi Senior High Technical.
Dr. Agyemang stressed in his opening remarks the value of the students’ demonstration of analytical and intellectual talents, particularly in the areas of polite argumentation and public speaking. He urged them to follow J.B. Danquah’s lead, emphasizing the value of integrity, accountability, and tenacity in reaching success in life.
Dr. Agyemang exhorted the students to pursue success via diligence and morality, and to hold fast to their beliefs in the face of difficulties.
