Former Commissioner of Police (COP), Nathan Kofi Boakye, was seen accompanying John Mahama during a gathering of Asanteman chiefs commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Sagrenti War, a significant clash between the Asantes and the British Colonial Army in 1874.
Named “Kuntunkuni” to honor the war’s memory, the event also welcomed other notable political figures. Boakye, donning black attire, escorted Mahama to the venue.
Previously, Boakye engaged in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign activities to regain power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He participated in the NDC’s 24-hour Economy Sensitization Walk in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, alongside former President John Dramani Mahama and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
Speculation is rife within the NDC about Boakye potentially being chosen as Mahama’s running mate in the December 2024 elections. Sources reveal ongoing discussions and selection processes, with growing confidence in Mahama’s inclination to nominate Boakye, given their close ties and Boakye’s connections to the influential Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti Region.
Boakye’s potential selection has sparked debates, with some believing it could enhance Mahama’s electoral prospects, while others argue it might ensure a stronger response to the NPP’s alleged election rigging plans in 2024.
