Twene Jonas, a Ghanaian social media influencer based in the United States, recently shared his thoughts on Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War.

On February 6th, 2024, Asanteman marked the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War, which took place in 1874.

Twene Jonas expressed his opinion, suggesting that Otumfour should prioritize highlighting his own accomplishments rather than commemorating past events.

In a widely circulated video, Twene Jonas remarked that Asanteman is lagging behind in development compared to other regions.

Twene Jonas also pointed out that if the forefathers of the Ashanti Kingdom were as weak as some suggest, Otumfour would not be commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War.

Twene Jonas provocatively questioned, “If your forefathers were that weak, would you be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War today? Ofui, what are you also doing to protect the Ashanti Kingdom for people to celebrate your 100 years and 150 years in the future?”

Twene Jonas asserted that even Yaa Asantewaa, a female leader, successfully commanded the Ashanti Kings during the War of the Golden Stool against British colonial rule, demonstrating the ability to defend and preserve the sovereign independence of the Golden Stool.

“Even Yaa Asantewaa, a woman, fought for Asanteman,” he emphasized.

In the video, the outspoken socialite highlighted illegal mining, suggesting that Otumfour has allowed individuals like the president, vice president, and Chairman Wontumi to undermine the Ashanti Kingdom through this activity.

He argued that if the Asantehene were truly strong, he would have been able to halt illegal mining in the Ashanti Region.

“Fight galamsey thoroughly, fight illegal mining thoroughly, you cannot do it. Even Chairman Wontumi, you cannot stop him from operating on your own land. And you expect us to regard you as a powerful figure. What kind of power do you possess? Even illegal mining, Akufo Addo, you cannot stop him. Even Bawumia, you cannot stop him. And you’ve allowed them to ravage the Ashanti Kingdom with illegal mining,” he remarked.
