The Chiefs of Begoro, including Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe Otweresohene, Okyeame Owusu, and Bafour Sakyi Amankwaa II, have lodged a complaint with the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council against Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II for publicly supporting John Mahama.

Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, the Ankobeahene of Begoro, stands accused of engaging in partisan politics by openly endorsing John Mahama and the concept of a 24-hour economy, thereby implicating Begoro and its leaders in political matters.

The petitioners argue that Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II’s actions have tarnished the reputation of the Begoro stool and subjected it to political mockery by publicly aligning with John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during a recent event known as the Building Ghana Tour organized by the opposition party.

They are requesting Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II to appear before the Kyebi-based traditional council to provide an explanation for his actions. “why he should not be customarily sanctioned for dragging the Begoro stool, the people of Begoro, and the stool elders of Begoro into partisan politics”.

The accusers of Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II claim that during a campaign event organized by the National Democratic Congress, which was attended by their presidential candidate, John Mahama, the Ankobeahene Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, purportedly speaking on behalf of Nananom and the community of Begoro, made the following allegedly partisan political remarks:

1. Flag bearer of NDC is incoming President of Ghana.
2. People of Begoro must vote massively for NDC flag bearer.
3. 24-hour economic policy of NDC will rescue people of Begoro from poverty.
4. All nananom invoked incantation against breaking the 8 mantra of NPP Government.
5. People of Begoro must be vigilant against vote rigging agenda of current government.
6. NDC Parliamentary candidate lost by dubious means in previous elections.
7. People of Begoro must vote massively for him in coming elections.
8. Embarrassment about Mahama endorsement – punish Ankobeahene.

The leader of Begoro has expressed deep concern over the recent actions and statements made by Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, stating that they were highly inappropriate and embarrassing. It is noted that Minta II attended a meeting without seeking proper permission and made remarks that were not approved.

Following this, the Chiefs of Begoro have called upon Minta II to appear before the elders of the community to clarify his actions. However, he has disregarded their summons, showing disrespect.

The reputations of both the Begoro stool and the Ofori Panin stool have been tarnished due to Minta II’s endorsement of Mahama, leading to public disapproval and ridicule.

To address this issue, the following actions are being pursued:

1. Declaration that Minta II’s behavior contradicts customs and is therefore null and void.
2. Removal of Minta II from his position as Ankobeahene of Begoro.
3. Public retraction of the comments made by Minta II.
4. Unconditional apology from Minta II to the petitioners, Begoro’s elders, and its people.
5. Imposition of customary sanctions if Minta II is found guilty.
6. Any other necessary orders deemed appropriate.
7. The respondent will bear the cost of this matter if found liable.
