The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has made a firm declaration that any attempt to undermine the Ashanti Kingdom, whether from the government, politicians, or other tribes within Ghana, will ultimately meet with failure.
This resolute statement was delivered during a durbar on Thursday, 8th February 2024, which marked the conclusion of the 150 years celebration of the Sagranti War, known as the Kuntunkuni festival, held in Manhyia.
At the event, Otumfuo called upon all Ghanaians to come together for a common cause, stressing the importance of fostering national development on a foundation of peace.
He recounted the historical journey of the Ashanti Kingdom, evolving from a distinct entity to an integral part of the Gold Coast, now governed under Ghana’s 1992 constitution.
Expressing concern about perceived hostility towards the Ashanti people, Otumfuo questioned the rationale behind any anti-Ashanti sentiments, reaffirming the Kingdom’s dedication to coexisting peacefully within the country’s legal framework and urging an end to divisive schemes.
While commemorating Asanteman’s resilience, Otumfuo underscored the significance of the Golden Stool as the symbolic heart of the Kingdom, rendering it impregnable. He reflected on the historical significance of the Sagrenti War of 1874, illustrating how the Golden Stool withstood numerous trials, cementing Asanteman’s indomitability.
“Asante perseveres through time. Despite the devastation brought by the whites 150 years ago, the Golden Stool endured. Even as various arms flooded Kumasi, the Golden Stool remained unscathed. As long as it stands, Asanteman remains inviolable, safeguarded by the sacrifice of our ancestors.”
“Those who seek to undermine Asante will fail. Let us cease all plots against our kingdom and embrace love as our guiding principle. Power is fleeting, but love endures. Politicians should govern with love, mindful that their reign is temporary.”
“The harmony within our land, encompassing Zongos, Ewes, Anlogas, and Fantes, should not be met with animosity. Let us unite and reject hatred. All political factions must recognize the indispensable role of Asante in Ghana’s unity. While we stand as equals, we will not tolerate exploitation,” Asanhene said.
