The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organizer, George Opare Addo, has stated that the party doesn’t underestimate the capabilities of Independent Presidential aspirant Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in the 2024 general election.
He indicated that Mr. Kyerematen would be treated as one of their political opponents if he appeared on the ballot paper.
The NDC National Youth Organizer stressed that the party will strategize to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the leader of the Movement for Change.
“The NDC respects every contender. Reflecting on our history, particularly the split in 2000, when Gossie Tandoh departed, it deeply impacted us. Should Alan be a candidate, we’ll regard him like any other political entity. Every election is consequential to us. Should he pass through the Electoral Commission’s scrutiny and appear on the December 7 ballot, the NDC will approach him with the same seriousness as any other party”.
“Alan possesses both strengths and weaknesses. As we strategize our campaign, we’ll carefully consider Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s influence and contributions, as well as what he might detract from both the NDC and NPP. We’ll devise a comprehensive approach to engage with him, acknowledging his significance. Underestimating Alan Kyerematen is not an option. We’ll view all contenders as political adversaries, analyzing their messages and preparing accordingly,” as stated on The Citiuation Room on Citi TV on February 8, 2024.
Opare Addo dismissed the claim made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team, that it would require 20 to 30 years for another political party to challenge the existing duopoly.
Opare Addo dismissed the claim made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team, that it would require 20 to 30 years for another political party to challenge the existing duopoly.
“The way political parties function doesn’t support that assumption. Ghanaian voters are growing more sophisticated each day. The conversations happening now are different from those 5 or 10 years ago, making Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s timeline questionable. I refuse to accept that it will take 20 or 30 years. As politicians, the narratives we construct about ourselves will eventually lead to the emergence of a third force.”
Mr. Kyerematen is positioning himself as this third force capable of disrupting Ghanaian politics’ entrenched duopoly.
